In Search Of Truth, When It Comes To Real Holiday Information.

When choosing our next vacation, what we need more than anything is real holiday information. The problem is that all the brochures and websites sound the same don’t they? All brochures and websites purport to give real holiday information but all the pictures look bewilderingly similar and all you need to do is change the names.

So where can you find authentic views from genuine users and customers of holiday destinations? It’s easy isn’t it? You go to a ‘real holiday information’ site and read the customer reviews. But can you believe them all or only the negative ones? How can you trust anything on a website? Couldn’t they all be ‘planted’ by people with an interest in the hotel or the resort? Can you only put credence in a review that is a thoroughly complaining negative view?

Take a look at the following real holiday information where only the names have been changed to protect the guilty…

“Very disappointing. El Dorado is marketed as a ‘quiet fishing village’ yet we found it to be anything but. It was wall-to-wall tourists and not a fisherman to be seen. Fishing wasn’t even an option as an activity. The hotel was too expensive, especially when there is a daily charge extra for use of a sun lounger and a kiwi cost me €5!!! The hotel had no parking which caused us to pay €120 for one week in the town car park. Restaurant service in the town was too slow and cuisine seemed similar from one place to the next. Went to the caves and the queue was a mile long. We were there in August which in hindsight was probably a mistake and perhaps it would have been better at another time but I won’t be returning to find out”!

Undoubtedly this is real holiday information and I am definitely crossing El Dorado off my wish list….but wait a minute, I live in El Dorado! I personally know a number of fishermen and there is a huge free car park in the center of the town. This writer seems to know the price of everything and the value of nothing. So you can’t trust even the honestly negative ones.

It’s all about balance though isn’t it? Obviously you need a large enough number of reviews and a sprinkling of obviously genuine ones. I also really like those star ratings as long as the number of customer feedback reports is large. An average four out five rating for a resort from hundreds of people who bothered to reflect on their experience is good enough for me. This is the bottom line in finding real holiday information. You have to take part in compiling it in order to have any faith at all in referring to it.
