With such a large number of hotel deals available in the city, it is little wonder that many holidaymakers are travelling to London in order to make the most of their money. And with summer only round the corner, the city is bracing itself for a further influx of visitors from around the world as the warmer weather approaches.
Radisson Edwardian Grafton Hotel offers some of the best hotel deals in the capital and, thanks to its central location close to Warren Street tube station, is close to London’s major attractions in the West End and one of its most pleasant green spaces at Regent’s Park.
Rooms in the 4-star hotel are available from £85 per night and guests are treated to Egyptian cotton duvets in its 330 British colonial-style rooms. The marble bathrooms benefit from heated towel racks, while occupants are also offered high-speed wireless internet access.
Another excellent cheap hotel option is Hotel Ibis London Earls Court, which is situated in close proximity to Earls Court Exhibition Centre and Stamford Bridge, the home of Chelsea Football Club. Rooms also begin at £85 per night and all are equipped with tea and coffee makers, telephones and televisions.
This year is set to be a busy one for London and there is no shortage of events for guests staying in cheap hotels to take advantage of. Running until July 25th at the British Museum is Fra Angelico to Leonardo: Italian Renaissance drawings, which consists of 100 works by the likes of Leonardo, Verrocchio and Michelangelo.
Have a passion for flowers? Then you’ll no doubt want to pay a visit to Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, which takes place in the grounds of Hampton Court Palace between July 6th and 11th. The event, which is organised by Royal Horticultural Society, has grown into the world’s largest annual flower show, and in 2010 it will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
If you need a cheap hotel close to the flower show, why not consider the Holiday Inn London Kingston? Located in the nearby town of Kingston-upon-Thames, the hotel has rooms available from £55 per night. Guests can take advantage of the on-site restaurant and 24-hour room service, while rooms are equipped with satellite television and air conditioning.
London’s West End is one of the leaders of world theatre. Bigger than the UK’s film industry and attracting more visitors than Broadway, some 13 million people took in a theatre performance in 2008. Theatre is big business in the capital and the most expensive show ever staged in the West End, Lord Of The Rings, cost a staggering £12.5 million.
One of the most exciting productions currently on show is Thriller Live, a musical celebrating the life of Michael Jackson. Thousands of people have seen the production since its arrival at the Lyric Theatre in January last year, and guests taking advantage of a central London hotel deal won’t be far from the action.
Located right in the heart of London’s theatre district is the Best Western Premier Shaftesbury Piccadilly, a 4-star hotel located on Shaftesbury Avenue where the exciting Soho district meets Chinatown. Guests of the cheap hotel need not worry about getting there as it is conveniently located just 50m from Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus tube stations.
Shaftesbury Piccadilly’s 64 rooms all come equipped with Egyptian cotton-linens, plasma televisions and free tea, fresh fruit and cookies. Room prices start at £161 per night and those securing a hotel deal can look forward to being right in the heart of one of London’s most happening areas.
Writer Samuel Johnson once remarked that “when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford”. While the British capital is undoubtedly one of the world’s foremost city break destinations, there are other equally exciting places to visit, and many of them are just a few hours away.
Some of the best cities to secure a cheap hotel deal were described in the Post Office’s City Costs Barometer 2010 report, which revealed that 57 per cent of Brits are intending to increase their expenditure on leisure activities, including holidays, over the coming months.
Prague was found to be the least expensive city for city breakers after it emerged as a better value option than its eastern European rivals. Large numbers of Brits travel to the Czech capital every year thanks to its historical and cultural offerings, with much of the city centre listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Last year, Prague received 4.1 million international visitors, the majority of whom travelled to the city’s famous Old Town Square, Prague Castle and the National Museum. In line with its status as Europe’s best value for money city, Prague has a number of cheap hotels popular with both city breakers and holidaymakers.
One of the best hotel deals can be found at Hotel Fortuna Luna, a 2-star hotel offering rooms starting at £76. The hotel is located near the O2 and Tesla Arenas, both of which accommodate exciting gigs and events, while guests can make use of an arcade and games room, a restaurant and a lounge bar.
Another favourite cheap hotel in the Czech capital is the A1 Hotel and Hostel Prague, which is situated just ten minutes from the city centre. The hotel, which boasts a friendly atmosphere in addition to affordable prices, is popular among backpackers and weekend travellers and is an excellent place to meet like-minded people.
Prague wasn’t the only value for money city unveiled by the City Costs Barometer. Lisbon and Bucharest, the capitals of Portugal and Romania, were also identified as destinations where holidaymakers staying in cheap hotels can get more for their money. This was determined by measuring the cost of typical tourist purchases such as eating and drinking out, hotel accommodation and sightseeing.
With so many hotel deals across Europe to be had, where will you choose to go for your next holiday?
